Special Relief Funds accepted here to assist victims of Hurricane Harvey

Junior League of Kalamazoo and Junior League of Lansing Partner to Collect for Hurricane Harvey Relief Donations

September 8, 2017 – The Junior League of Kalamazoo (JLK) and The Junior League of Lansing (JLL) will partner this month in the collection of funds and gift cards to assist victims of Hurricane Harvey to help in relief efforts. One hundred percent of the donations received will be distributed evenly between the Junior Leagues of Houston and The Woodlands. To donate online, see form BELOW.

At the JLK and the JLL General Membership Meetings on September 12, 2017, each League will encourage its members to bring gift card donations to Wal-Mart, Target or Home Depot.

Check donations will be accepted as well. Please make checks payable to JLK and memo “Hurricane Fund” and mail to: JLK, 5047 W. Main St. #260, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Each League will use funds collected to purchase gift cards to these stores and will be sent to Houston and The Woodlands to assist these Leagues, their members, and their communities in the relief efforts from Hurricane Harvey.

The JLK and JLL encourage donations that benefit other Junior Leagues during this time of need because of their long history of sound stewardship, and localized, long term aid they are able to provide the communities they serve. While there are many reputable organizations accepting donations for Harvey relief efforts, Junior Leagues are a powerful force affecting change. For over a 100 years, Junior Leagues across the United States have been able to provide funds to community non-profit organizations and deploy a large group of highly-trained volunteers to support these efforts. Because Junior League members reside in the communities affected by Harvey, they can continue to stay in touch with needs as they arise over the stages of recovery.

JLK will be accepting donations through September 30, 2017.

Support the Junior League of Kalamazoo

The JLK is committed to developing the potential of women, improving the community through the effective action of trained volunteers, and promoting voluntarism. On average, we provide more than 500 volunteer hours of work per year in the Kalamazoo County area, helping hundreds of children live a healthier lifestyle. We also train future leaders for our community through workshops, education sessions, and directed leadership conferences. None of this would be possible without our community’s support.

Ways to Give

The JLK offers many vehicles for support. You may elect to contribute cash to either our Annual Campaign or our Endowment Fund. You may sign up to sponsor one of our community-based fundraising events. You may choose to remember the JLK in your estate planning. Or, you can join us as a volunteer at an event.

  • Living for Today – The JLK Annual Campaign – The Annual Campaign helps support today’s immediate operational needs. This money allows the JLK to perform its daily operations and activities, including the projects and programming, training sessions, and basic office needs. This fund helps us keep the lights on and the community projects going.
  • Living for Tomorrow – The JLK Endowment Fund – The Endowment Fund helps sustain the JLK in perpetuity. The interest earned in the Endowment Fund helps offset operational costs. The Endowment Fund is managed by the Kalamazoo Community Foundation.
  • Living for a Legacy – Memorial and Planned Giving – Remember all your fond memories of your years in the JLK, or a JLK project that has made a positive impact in your life? Now you can gift in legacy to the JLK, without impacting your immediate cash-flow. Ensure that your funeral arrangements include that Memorial Gifts may be directed to the JLK (either the Endowment Fund or the Annual Campaign). Or, include a provision in your will or trust that a portion of your estate be gifted to the JLK. Your estate or financial planner can make this happen in minutes, and you won’t have to think about it again.
  • Sponsorships – The JLK hosts community-based fundraisers throughout the year. Your cash donation will help these events achieve the greatest fundraising success. Sign up for one event sponsorship, or show your community support by becoming an Annual Champion, receiving prominent recognition at all JLK events.
  • Partnerships – The JLK has project based fundraisers & project collections throughout the year. Your cash or In-Kind donation will help these projects succeed.
  • Volunteer – A major tenet of the JLK is promoting voluntarism … and we would like you to join us as we make a positive, lasting impact in our community!
