Membership Requirements

The Junior League of Kalamazoo has a set of requirements for all women in our organization. For New Member, Active, Preferred Active and Sustaining Members, we have requirements that must be completed in order to maintain each standing.

New Member Requirements

  • Possess an interest in voluntarism and commitment to community service and an interest in developing the potential of women.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Pay New Member dues of $150, 30 days from when invoiced.
  • Financially support the Annual Fund and Fundraising activities.
  • Attend General Membership Meetings. If unable to attend, notify the Secretary in advance of the meeting.
  • Attend New Member Meetings to Successfully complete the New Member Training Course.
  • Complete four (4) scheduled volunteer shifts; one (1) Fundraising and three (3) Community Impact.
  • Participate in an interview with Advisor from Nominating & Engagement Committee and/or complete placement form for following year.
  • Notify Advisor in advance if unable to fulfill a membership requirement.
  • Sign the Junior League of Kalamazoo Service Agreement.  

Active Member Requirements

  • Pay annual membership dues of $150 on or before May 10.
  • Financially support the Annual Fund and Fundraising activities.
  • Attend General Membership Meetings. If unable to attend, notify the Secretary in advance of the meeting.
  • Fulfill a committee placement by attending committee meetings and participating in the activities of the committee.
  • Complete four (4) scheduled volunteer shifts; one (1) Fundraising and three (3) Community Impact.
  • Participate in an interview with Advisor from Nominating & Engagement Committee and/or complete placement form for following year.
  • Notify Advisor in advance if unable to fulfill a membership requirement.
  • Sign the Junior League of Kalamazoo Service Agreement.   

Preferred Active Requirements

An Active member in good standing who has completed at least five (5) years of Active service shall, upon written requests to the Secretary on or before March 1, and acceptance by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Board of Directors, be granted Preferred Active status.

A Preferred Active member must meet all of the requirements of Active membership but is exempt from the General Membership Meetings (except the Annual meeting and Voting meeting) AND must only complete 2 volunteer shifts instead of 4. 

Sustaining Member Requirements

An Active member in good standing who has completed at least five (5) years of Active service shall, upon written request to the Secretary by March 1 and acceptance by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Board of Directors, be granted Sustaining membership.

A Sustaining Member is exempt from all requirements except paying of annual dues and supporting fundraising activities.
